Teletherapy for Teens & Adults
Wellness is the Whole You
Maybe you know exactly what you want support focusing on, or maybe something just feels off. Either way, your mental health and wellness is more than the words we use to describe what we're thinking, feeling, and doing... it's about building a deeper understanding of how our mind, body, and spirit are interconnected, and using that connection to restore our sense of balance.
Sometimes we disconnect from our feelings and sensations as a defensive mechanism when our safety and security feel threatened. Other times we are consumed by our thoughts, overwhelmed by our feelings, and experiencing the physical effects of stress and trauma through our bodies. I want you to know that it's not only ok to have those feelings, it’s actually normal. Therapy is about building deeper self-awareness, acknowledging and celebrating the tools you already possess within you, and adding tools and resources that are there when you need them.
Through experiential activities including play, expressive arts, and mindful breath work, we will explore the connections and strengthen the strategies that help you feel present, balanced, safe, and well.
Engaging & Interactive
Words are not the only way we communicate, and for all of us (and kids in particular) it can be hard to understand everything that's going on inside, let alone find the words to describe it. By using games, artistic expressions, and body-based activities, I make session highly engaging and open up avenues for you to show me what you're experiencing.
Today's technology gives me a much larger toolbox of games and activities than would fit in a traditional office, and every session is tailored to meet you where you are in the moment. The most important thing to me is fostering a therapeutic relationship built on trust, safety, and curiosity -- connection is the magic that allows us to explore what's going on even when words fail us.
Whatever the moment calls for, and whether we're talking, drawing, or using immersive virtual reality headsets, you will an active participant in our journey together.
Trauma-Informed Care
We experience trauma in times of stress, fear, pain, and loss when we don't have the internal and external resources to cope in a healthy and balanced way. The physiological survival mechanisms that kick on to help us get through threats and adversity can remain on, which takes a toll on our nervous systems and our overall sense of safety and wellness.
For me, practicing “trauma informed” care means having a holistic understanding the many ways we each might experience and cope with adversity. Too many people focus on trying to change undesirable thoughts, feelings, and behaviors rather than exploring them in the context of unresolved or ongoing stress and trauma.
Your sense of safety always comes first, and as we center our work on the mind, body, and spirit connection you will be my teacher when it comes to what feels safe to you in the moment.
“The body always leads us home… if we can simply learn to trust sensation and stay with it long enough for it to reveal appropriate action, movement, insight, or feeling.” - Pat Ogden
