EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization &
Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR)
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), developed by Dr. Francine Shapiro in 1987, is a highly sought out
psychotherapy approach used to help treat stress and trauma.
-
Focus on traumatic memories: During EMDR, a therapist guides the patient to focus on a specific traumatic memory while simultaneously performing bilateral stimulation, which can be done through eye movements, alternating sounds in each ear, or tapping on opposite sides of the body.
-
Adaptive Information Processing Model: The theory behind EMDR is based on the idea that traumatic memories can become "stuck" in the brain, preventing proper processing and causing distress; EMDR aims to help the brain reprocess these memories and integrate them in a more adaptive way.
-
Eight-phase structure: EMDR therapy typically follows a structured eight-phase process, including taking a history, preparation, assessment, desensitization, installation of positive beliefs, body scan, closure, and reevaluation.
-
Widely used for PTSD: While EMDR can be used for various mental health conditions, it is most commonly used to treat post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Unlike talk therapy methods, EMDR does not require patients to extensively describe or verbalize their traumatic experiences.

Let's Get Started
Free Consultation
Let's start with a free, no-pressure 15-minute phone consultation so that I can learn more about your goals and answer any questions you have. If we agree that I'm a good fit we'll schedule a longer "intake" session to take a deeper dive.
Intake Session
We'll schedule a video conference to explore your experiences, the areas you would like to address, and how we can partner together to help you achieve your therapeutic goals.

90-minutes, $250
Ongoing Sessions
Typically we meet weekly for 50-minutes, though the frequency and duration can vary based on your goals. Cancel or reschedule anytime with 24-hour notice.

50-minutes: $200
Licensed in Maryland
I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in the state of Maryland.
Do you accept insurance?
I am not currently able to accept insurance, but I am happy to prepare a "super bill" that you can submit for reimbursement if eligible under on the terms of your insurance policy.
What do I need?
Sessions work best on a computer or tablet with a high-speed wifi connection, webcam, and a quiet place where you can speak freely. I use HIPAA-compliant versions of Zoom or Google Meets for videoconferencing, and we'll discuss any additional tools we might use.
